Go See Kenya - Welcome

What's New.....?

Up-date on the political situation in Kenya

Thankfully on the 28th February 2008 a power-sharing agreement was signed between President Kibaki and opposition-leader Odinga. The reaction across Kenya to the proposed coalition government has been largely positive and peaceful.

The Marketing Co-ordinator, comments:

"We hope that people will be able to see past the problems in Kenya and that the abundance of activities and beauty of the country will continue to draw people in.... In this situation it is the economy that will struggle due to lack of tourism and as a result the communities that depend on this economy will also suffer.... Kenya has a history of stability and has had a booming tourism trade for many years, we hope that people will continue to support this trade by visiting the fantastic people and places that Kenya has to offer".

Please note, GSK's first priority is always client safety and therefore we take advice from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office about the situation on the ground and what precautionary measures we should be taking. Our view is that currently travel to the region of Kenya that GSK operates in is not adversely affected by the current political situation and therefore we are continuing to operate as normal.

Whether you are a professional in need of a break, retired and looking for a challenge or just have time to spare, this is the experience for you...

Go See Kenya offers 3 and 6 week experiences working in the community of Shimoni, a coastal village 80km south of Mombasa in Kenya.

We want you to get as much as possible out of your experience and therefore offer you the chance to work on 3 projects; the first is marine based, monitoring and documenting the marine life including dolphins, whale sharks and hump-back whales. The second working on a forestry project focusing on a re-planting scheme and carrying out surveys of the primate and bird species in the local area. The third project is working in the community with local schools to help build new facilities, assist with teaching and implement environmental projects involving the kids.

On top of spending the weeks working on the projects; we are offering you comfortable accommodation and great food, on your weekends off we have lots of exciting trips to recommend from lying on a nearby beach to exploring the Three Sister caves or going on safari. We feel that it is important to help you make the most of your time off as we know how precious it is.

We pride ourselves on our ability to be flexible, if you are interested in coming for a shorter or longer amount of time, are considering bringing your family, or want to do specific activities on your weekends off, just ask, we will do our best to discuss the options and find a solution that it is right for you.

So why Go See Kenya?

• We are able to connect you with a grass root level experience working in a community affected by the challenges of climate change and global warming, we want our volunteers to get involved with helping to monitor, repair and prevent some of the effects and enhance the lives in this community.

• Unlike many organisations we only operate in one area in Kenya. The people behind the project, Peter and Sandra Ruysenaars have invested their own time and money into this community and this is reflected in the projects. The benefit to you is that you get to see exactly where your money goes.

• We are not just a company, we work in conjunction with a Charity called The Kenya Kesho Trust which was also set up by Peter and Sandra Ruysenaars and is now becoming a UK registered charity and through which, the aim is to raise awareness and funds to support the local children in continuing their education. This is where the profit from your payment goes, although only a small amount at the moment, we are hoping that as Go See Kenya grows, so will our ability to put more and more of the money you pay us straight into the charity. Any offers of donations will be gratefully received but must go through The Kenya Kesho Trust .
